We treat children of all ages at the Acupuncture and Health Centre using a combination of acupuncture, herbal remedies and a variety of non-needle techniques.

Children are very responsive to the stimulation of acupuncture points and meridians, so when needles are used they are retained for a very minimal amount of time or not at all. Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for many childhood complaints and honestly kids love it!

At the Acupuncture and health centre we deeply value your wisdom and insight into your child’s health. We take the time to truly listen and hear both your concerns and goals for your little one. After all you are the expert on your child.

Chinese Medicine has a long history of treating pediatric conditions. It sees the body as going through stages of development from birth to death. From birth to early childhood the digestive system and the immune system are still developing and are much weaker compared to those of an adults. This makes kids susceptible to digestive problems, colds and flu’s, allergies and infection.

Chinese Medicine excels at strengthening these weak systems and correcting body imbalances. This is done through a variety of methods that have been developed with kids in mind. The acupuncture we use is very gentle, often the kids come in frightened of needles but within no time they see that it is painless and there is nothing to be scared of. We try not to use the word needles and instead refer to them as taps. Often times we use other non invasive measures such as tui na (chinese therapeutic massage) when needles are not appropriate. Also important is attention to diet and when appropriate herbal formulas to strengthen weak systems. We carry a line of herbs designed for children.

During treatments we teach parents ways to keep their child as healthy as possible through massage, acupressure, diet and lifestyle advice.
